Executive Search - Mutualism or Semi-Parasitic?

I am constantly asked why people pay so much for the services of an Executive Search company when candidates are often very easily identified and attracted to organisations via much lower cost methods. To which, I normally answer - "I haven't got a clue!".

I have often asked myself the same question, and think I may have the answer. The relationship between a headhunter and a senior executive is as symbiotic as they come. The… Continue

Managed Services Now Truly Embedded in the Recruitment Industry

People not associated with the recruitment industry often seem surprised at how large an industry recruitment actually is. When I then go on to explain that the recruitment industry even has it's own recruitment indutsry (rec-to-rec) this is often followed with a wry smile!

Recruitment Outsourcing and managed services take this to the next level, where a supplier is engaged to manage other suppliers. I visited a client recently where the Head of Procurement was waxing lyrical about… Continue

Is This The End For Job Boards?

It was not long ago the first job board appeared on a newly discovered World Wide Web. How can it be that people are already talking about how long job boards will be around for.

During difficult times that we are in at the moment, more and more organisations are looking at ways of saving money. Recruiting departments job board spend seems to be an ever increasing pot, with job boards increasing fees etc.

The editor of Talent… Continue

What are the Key Business Drivers for Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO)?

I read an interesting article some time ago by AON Consulting in the US, who had conducted a survey of over 1000 US HR Business Leaders about the reasons they would choose RPO for their business. The survey revealed the following:

It is interesting to note that the two main business drivers are speed and quality. I would expect the reasons for UK… Continue

Where is RPO in the UK going? What is the future for RPO in the UK?

I was recently contacted by a journalist for People Management Magazine in the UK who are producing a Recruitment Outsourcing Supplement.

They wanted a comment from me about where RPO in the UK was going, and what was the next big thing to happen in RPO? I shall give you the link to the article if/when it comes out (you never know). Even if it doesn't come out, I thought I'd write a few words about where I think RPO is going in the UK.… Continue

Harnessing Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 Technology for Recruitment

Cranfield have just published a report "The War For Talent Moves Online" which very kindly tells us that "employers need to engage with potential employees and build relationships with them in order to attract them into their organisation". Why Do People Make RPO So Complicated?

Last night I took my two children (Ellie-10 & Harvey-8) to see Michael Morpurgo at Chester University. For those of you who don't know Michael, he is an award winning childrens author and was the children's laureate from 2003 - 2005. Michael writes superb childrens books which are so simple and a real joy to read.

It got me thinking about why we have to make recruitment process outsourcing (RPO) so complicated. When… Continue

Do Candidates Care About The Brand?

Is it worth our while investing heavily in Employer Branding Exercises, or is it just a way of the Marketing Dept spending some of ther budget?

Employer Brand as A Strategic Tool

Just came across a very interesting article at Staffing.org about employer branding as a Strategic Tool.

The key findings of the report are:

81% of HR professionals said their organizations have either a formal or informal HR strategy to use their employer brand to attract talent, and 69% use this strategy to retain talent. 97% of HR professionals said their employer brand is aligned with the company’s… Continue

Employer Branding - The argument Continues - What budget should I allocate

Omni are often asked about, and advise our clients on, employer branding, and how to best spend the small busget which is often allocated to recruitment branding - if any. An employer brand is as powerful, if not more powerful than an employer's actual brand. I was really interested to read Michael's post from AON all about this subject.

I am really interested if anybody has any… Continue

Demand for staff in the UK has fallen at its sharpest rate since 1997

It looks like things are only getting worse with the economy, which is showing in recruitment figures by Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC). See the following article from Recruiter Magazine. It appears the only recruiter at the moment keeping up with previous levels is the NHS!

I believe the downturn in the recruitment market is a perfect opportunity for organistaions to look at outsourcing their… Continue

Recruitment Outsourcing - The Community

Being one of the first people in the UK to set up a pure play recruitment outsourcing comapany over 12 years ago (Omni Resource Management Solutions), I feel there is still not enough information out there for people to discuss RPO.

I would like this community to discuss everything there is about RPO. From people who have already had experience of recruitment outsourcing to those people who are still on the journey of whether to outsource… Continue
